Frequently asked questions
Does anything get uploaded when I convert a file?
No. Every conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device — nothing is uploaded to any server.
Is this file converter free to use?
Yes. hey.kiwi File Converter is completely free. No account, no sign-up, and no payment required.
What file sizes are supported?
Conversions are limited by your device's available memory. Most files under 100 MB convert fine. Very large PDFs or high-resolution videos may be slow on older devices.
Which image formats can I convert between?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and BMP — in any combination. Quality settings are available for lossy formats.
How does Video → GIF work?
The tool reads your video file locally, samples frames at a chosen rate, and encodes a GIF using a JavaScript encoder. No server is involved. Supported formats include MP4, WebM, MOV, and AVI.
How do I convert a PDF to an image?
Select the "PDF → Image" tab, drop or browse for your PDF file, choose your output format (JPEG, PNG, or WebP), set quality and scale, then click Convert. Each page of the PDF becomes a separate image file.
Can I convert multiple images to a single PDF?
Yes. Select the "Image → PDF" tab, add multiple image files (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or BMP), then click Convert. All images are combined into one PDF in the order you added them.
